Cars Vs Cyclists – but who’s missing?

Cars Vs Cyclists – but who’s missing?

It’s the age old argument of who has more rights and who should have more rights – a car or bicycle.

They hate each other, and if one ever posts criticizing the other, within the first few comments you will see things get personal or even violent.

A Facebook friend recently posted a satirical blog about things cyclists do that annoy car drivers, and literally got a death threat from a cyclist for it!

Some of my most viewed YouTube videos, with hundreds of thousands of views, are ones that feature a cyclist or even just that ‘c’ word in the title. To read the comments you’d think I hate cyclists myself – and very few will ever know or bother to watch the videos where I’ve stood up and even protected cyclists.

Hell, some of my best friends are cyclists. Personally, the thought of cycling on modern roads scares the shit out of me and it’s a disaster waiting to happen, but I digress…

There’s someone missing from these road wars.

Motorcycles.

Whenever legislation is passed, new rules created or road markings laidd, they NEVER think about motorbikes.

Never.

How else do you explain Advanced Stop Lines (ASL’s)? These are the boxes you’ll find at traffic lights as a refuge for cyclists, so they can safely filter through and safely set off first when the lights turn green to keep cyclists safe from cars. No other vehicles are allowed to stop within the ASL.

Wait – what?

So a motorbike, that has filtered to the front, is not offered the same safety? Even though the biker is just as vulnerable? Even though that motorbike will out-accelerate very easily any car or cyclist, so it makes even more sense for them to be at the front?

Clearly, when they set the ASL laws they’d forgotten about motorbikes, and it was all car vs cycle as usual.

Birmingham is quite good, but a lot of other cities won’t let motorbikes use bus lanes, which makes no sense at all if cyclists can.

There’s never any talk of special motorcycle only roads or paths, despite everyone having a cry that motorbikes account for 99.4% of road fatalities or whatever. Why?

Oh the Government will give you money off a new cycle to save the environment and cut congestion, and celebrate you, and give you lots of free, secure parking – but not if you want a motorcycle! And you’re going to give thousands of cars cheap road tax (yeah I know it’s not road tax – I just wanted you to have THAT rant again!) but motorbikes still pay full, and quite often more than car fees.

WTF is all that about?

All we do get is signs put up by the side of the road saying esoteric things like “THINK BIKE!” that nobody really knows what it means or who it’s there for? I mean, are they to get cars to look out for bikers or are they to get bikers to stop riding like idiots?

How about you remember the other group out there cutting congestion on our over-crowded roads chock-full of single-occupancy steel boxes?

Remember traffic jams are a car problem – not a bike one. And that means BOTH lots of bikes.

Should We Allow Gay Marriage In The UK?

Should We Allow Gay Marriage In The UK?

https://i2.wp.com/static.happyplace.com/assets/images/2011/08/4e4e727374deb.jpg

Let me ask you another question:

If you’re straight, why do you care?

Is it honestly going to affect you in any way at all if two people who love each other choose to marry each other and wear a ring?

If you answered ‘yes’ either of these questions it’s because you’re some religious head-the-ball who shouldn’t be allowed to play with the rest of us in society anyway, or you’re some trouble-making bigot with nothing better to worry about in your life than bullshit ‘issues’ that don’t even affect you. Oh, hang on – are they both the same thing, anyway? Hmm…

I just don’t understand why anyone wants to stop someone else being happy with their life – as long as their life doesn’t hurt or adversely affect anybody else.

And let’s face it – who does gay marriage hurt? It might mean a straight man can’t have his dream lesbian threesome because it would be against the laws of marriage… but then again how many (straight) married couples are into swinging and dogging and swapping, anyway?

Many of these religious types so opposed to gay marriages are, ironically, well-known for having gay sex. With small children.

But let’s flip the coin here for a moment!

Why would anyone want to be part of any religious ceremony for a religion that hates them, anyway?

Wouldn’t it make more sense to tell the Church to fuck off and die, and say it loud and proud that you don’t need some bullshit ceremony to support your way of life?!

And if these filthy rotten homo’s are cheapening that whole concept of marriage, just what the Hell is the official line about rampant whore-slag fuck-anythings like Katie Price aka Jordan, or Jodie Marsh who even had a TV program called “Who’s going to take her up the aisle”?

Get a grip, people!

Gay Pride March, Birmingham 2011

Gay Pride March, Birmingham 2011

I knew there was something going on when we first got near Birmingham city centre to find all the roads being closed off and traffic getting gridlocked all over the place.

I’d driven in with a mate to go to the Soy Cafe – awesome Chinese/Vietnamese food that’s always fresh and served up quickly.  They also have a £6.95 set menu deal where you get a drink, pudding and choose a main meal from the ever-changing selection.  Trust me – it’s good stuff!

So we walked towards it, with the distant sound of whistles and signs announcing disruption for Pride (as if we hadn’t noticed an increased number of, well, ‘The Gay Community’ mooching about the place), and as we got near the Chinese quarter we were headed off by the parade itself.

Now, I’ve got no problem with homosexuals myself.  Why would I have?  I’m straight and proud, so if they’re gay and proud that’s fine by me, and everyone’s happy!

I’m not entirely sure what the whole Gay Pride march is about?  Whether it’s political, raising awareness, or just an excuse for a big old street party, or all of them!?

Gay Rights?  Give it to ’em!

Why should any straight person give a damn if gays want to marry?  If you think it through, those straight people are the only ones who WON’T be affected by gay marriage, because they’re not gay so probably won’t be forced into marrying a gay.  Get over it!

Anyway, the actual parade seemed a bit tame compared to what I was expecting.  I thought it would be more of a carnival type affair, with heavy partying.  I guess the march was only around 1pm, so it’ll all get a lot more lively as the night draws in.

It was actually quite a good atmosphere there!

As we were starting to starve to death, and the parade seemed to have stopped, we made the choice to cut through it to get across the road to where the restaurant was.

Of course, just as I got right in the middle, surrounded by scantily clad gold-sprayed people, stilt-walkers, and banners, everything started to bloody move again, with cameras going off etc.

So you just KNOW that on the front page of all the newspapers reporting the Pride March will be a picture of ME right in the middle of the damned parade!

ARGH!!!

And to top it off, I picked the worst possible day to wear my crotchless jeans and nipple clamps…

This was a moody Police biker, sat staring at the Fire Brigade bike in the parade, which had loads of people having photo’s taken with it.  The Police biker looked miserable at being left out, so I found it funny and took his picture:

Being Gay Is A Choice!

Being Gay Is A Choice!

I’ve written a blog about this in the past, and obviously it was controversial back then as much as this will be.

It always amazes me how strongly people fight this one.  But then I realise that the gay community fight very hard all the time, for everything, and if I’m totally honest that’s part of the reason why they piss people off.  That’s not to say I don’t support gay rights etc – in my opinion I’m straight so why should I stop the gays doing whatever they want?  Hell yes, give them equal rights!  It’s not going to affect me, is it?

Anyway, I read this blog by someone totally new to me:

I Can Choose

Now, I’m in the camp (pardon the pun) that thinks being gay IS a choice.

Why shouldn’t it be?

https://i2.wp.com/www.vilnius-life.com/media/pics/gay-vilnius.jpg

The linked blog mentions that often turning out to be gay can be related to past abuse etc, but I don’t think even this should be a factor.

By claiming people are either born gay or it happens through abuse, isn’t that being really defensive, and maybe even guilty?

It shouldn’t be like that! I think people get far too worked up over this stuff and try to find reasons and excuses which simply don’t exist – and don’t have to exist, either.

I’ve heard the argument before that “Nobody would choose to be gay!  Nobody would want to go through such a hard time growing up!”, and whilst I do sympathise with how cruel people can be towards gays (Yes, I’ve been one of those filled with hate and ignorance), you’ll have to pardon me if I cry bullshit.

I bet most of the fetishes we have as adults would have brought about just as much anger, hate and ridicule from our peers.  We still chose them.

https://i1.wp.com/www.slapupsidethehead.com/wp-content/media/2008/02/ex-gay-therapy.jpg

As I addressed most of the above to the readers and writer of the blog, someone came back with the excellent question: “So when did you choose to be straight?”

I thought for a while on this.

Could it be that it was conditioned into me NOT to be gay from an early age?  If that is the case, then it’s a wonder that I haven’t ended up as a monster raging Queen just to rebel!

They say (well, I think it was Ice-T, actually…) that if you take a load of newborn babies and put them together in a sandbox, they will all play happily regardless of race etc… I wonder if the same would be true of sexuality?

Entire civilisations before our own had less of a problem with which side you swung the bat at. I forget if it was the Romans or Greeks who are best known for (at the very least) bisexuality, but I’m sure someone will know.

Another argument against my views is that animals are gay in nature.  Again, this doesn’t really prove anything for either side, as, yes, they are ‘naturally’ homosexual, but it should also be noted that any peer pressure or societal judgements have also been removed in their case.

Having had the fact put to me again, I would LOVE to know exactly which animal is the gayest species, if anyone can find that info?  I’m betting it’s Meercats.

So I still don’t see a convincing argument as to why it can’t be a preference, just as I could choose to go for overly hairy women or bakers who smell of fish.  It’s just a choice – and that only gets labelled as ‘Good’ or ‘Bad’ when someone thinks you made a bad one…

And don’t get me started on where this ‘choice’ or ‘birth’ argument goes to when you throw it at paedophiles…

I also feel that I should spell it out very clearly here that I do not believe this blog or my views are in any way derogatory – it’s just my opinion based on the evidence so far.
